Hardshots Handball Club

Hardshots Handball Club was formed in 1998 through the initiative of a number of School leavers based in the high-density suburb of Sakubva, Mutare. The club is made up of youths both males and females averaging between 15 and 30 years in age most are still at school and some are unemployed. Most of the players are Sportleaders in the Mutare-Haarlem Sport Project. The club was formed as a result of the Sportleaders initiatives to start community clubs in an attempt to bring sport to the people, develop Handball as well as to identify and nurture talent.

Hardshots has the following among others as its objectives;
1. To organize games (friendly and league) for its members.
2. To foster and encourage the development of Handball.
3. To create partnerships with other clubs in Zimbabwe and around the world.
4. To create opportunities for people to participate in sport.

We have in a way been able to meet some of our objectives as currently we are working in partnership with the Mutare-Haarlem Sport project in organising tournaments and competitions. Hardshots players are working hand in hand with the Manicaland Handball Association so as to develop a Handball league in the province. This partnership saw the appointment of Rutendo Mandeya as the Development Officer for the Manicaland Handball Association and other players being selected to coach the Manicaland team that won silver, two gold medals in 2004, 2005 and 2006 respectively in the Zimbabwe Youth Games.

Furthermore the bulk of Hardshots players are conducting coaching sessions in schools as part of our objective to have more people playing the game of Handball and more players joining the club. As a result the club has a broad base for player recruitment as we created a partnership with local schools through providing coaches and organizing tournaments for them. In the process we encourage the students to join the club after School hours.
