Haarlem Mutare Athletics Club Open 10 km run

Sunday, 19th of March 2006

6.00 hrs, last change for subscribe. Not very busy… We expected a lot people. There was promotion on the television by Mr Tagare and an article in the Manica Post. And of course with the information that the athletes, when they get a good result, will be taken in consideration for further guidance in the Netherlands. Also we spread out posters in Mutare at schools and social places.
7.30 hrs, yeah there they are! A lot of people who arrived with the night train. The number of people on the roll: 49.

Senior men:       23
Senior Women:  5
Junior men:       18
Junior women:   3

8.00 hrs, the start! Nicely on time. The 10 km route was true Sakubva. There were quit a number of  spectators.
After exactly 29:22 minutes arrived number 1: Charles Soza. 20 seconds later finished Point Chaza. As 3rd finished Colleen Parura in 30:38 minutes. At the junior men was Lyno Muchena the ace. In a time from 30:44 beat he a lot of seniors. After 40:53 minutes finished the first women; Rudo Makombe. Exactly within an hour all the athletes were inn.

About 9.30 hrs there was the prize giving’s. The vip’s were given the prizes. As a vip there were invited: Cees Meijer, Mr. Matume, Mr. Mapurisa, Mr. Segura, Mr Mpofu and Mr. Mukonowatsauka. Each and every one of them were responsible for a category (so sometimes as a couple).

Everything was organised well. The police was on time and did know the route (the board had some worries about that), the ambulance was there, there were enough water points and enough volunteers (the volunteers were a lot off sportleaders from the sportproject) and of course the most important part of the morning: there were a bunch of enthusiastic athletes who did give everything to attract attention!! Also the vip’s were present. Yes, it was a very nice morning. I was very happy after the run. With a nice feeling I went back home. It was a busy preparations but with success!

The athletes who are going to the Netherlands:
