Aerobics & Gymnastics Gala
At the 5th of April 2006 the Mutare Haarlem Sportleaders organised the Aerobics & Gymnastics Gala for the first time. It was held outside in the middle of Sakubva, the oldest township of Mutare.
Before this event the sportleaders already introduced aerobics and gymnastics at different primary and secondary schools in Mutare and teached the kids in those disciplines. They decided to organise the Gala, because all the kids were very enthusiastic and this would give them a nice opportunity to showcase their skills.
On the day of the Gala 4 primary and 3 secondary schools participated with an equal number of boys and girls, in total there were 210 participants (14 teams).
It was a very successful day. More then 400 people from the community came, curious because of all the music, to see what was happening. As well as some important stakeholders, the ministry of education and resource teachers.
Even though there was not all the equipment we wished for, the children gave a great performance. It was really great to see what they had all learned in those months. An you could see, they really enjoyed, as well as the audience (and the organising committee)!
The big surprise for most people was the act of the Matrix Acrogymnasts. It was amazing to see all those talented youngsters with their stunts and somersaults. And of course they were the example for all the younger kids.
The Mutare Haarlem Sportleaders will continue with the development of aerobics and gymnastics in and around Mutare. They hope to make an annual event of this Gala. For the future they’ll expect more schools, colleges as well as community clubs to participate, even teams outside Mutare will be welcome.
